interesting setup at the stadttheater bozen for the contemporary opera the tyrant. a nice and intriguing scene with a lot of particular elements. I prepared the video controlling system software for the videos done by armin ferrari. Isadora was the right choice for it's versatility.

searching some videos for my new project I discovered this nice solution to see the DSLR pictures directly on an ipad

the scene in tartuffe will be only a huge elastic band screen. the projection has to be a environment description. the actors will cross the curtain in defined position to create the illusion of enter or exit a door. live, prerec and 3d graphics will be used to create the scene.

right now I'm testing two software for the setup. the choice will be between isadora and vvvv.

preproduction

in this phase I'm creating some "idea modules" to use during the rehearsals. based on the combination of live and prerec the modules will define the timelani and workflow of the final programming project. the use of a graphical programming environment helps to create patches for the various modules implemented during the creation process.

3d environment & editing

the projection will have live camera video, prerecorded video and 3d environment mixed with the prerecorded and the live video feed. to create the 3d environments I tested some software and eventually use the DAZ3D studio 4. Studio 4 let me change the views and the POV of the cameras in a very fast and useful way for my purposes and the easy way to modify the environmental elements of the scene is the reason why I choosed this software. the rendering will be in a first moment a preview rendering then a final rendering just before the premiere. The compositing will be done with After effects and the editing in Premiere Pro but the whole Production Premium Creative suite will be used.

0112011. l'installazione sta funzionando egregiamente, ho avuto un po' di paura per quanto riguarda la connessione, ma la chiavetta tre non ha deluso (almeno stavolta). 10 ore e mezzo connessa senza interruzioni. alla fine i tweet sono stati 5906 per il positivo e 1684 per il negativo. interessante la reazione del pubblico tra cui c'erano molti che conoscevano twitter solo di nome ma non sapevano cos'era esattamente. il pubblico più che interagire con i prorpi tweet osservava i tweet degli altri. sicuramente una postazione collegata ad internet per poter twittare avrebbe aiutato molto specialmente dopo aver scoperto che buona parte era sprovvista di smartphone. ottima l'organizzazione di massimo premuda per la parte artistica.

ci sono dei alcuni momenti in cui alcuni libri hanno un effetto particolare. i momenti sono quelli in cui c'è una stasi di creatività o un vuoto di significato. si medita, ci si aspetta l'idea ma, in questi anni mi sono accorto che aspettare non reve a nulla. la cosa da fare è osservare, farsi contaminare. il mio metodo preferitodi contaminazione contenutistica è quello di sfogliare libri. antichi o moderni, l'unico elemento che devono contenere sono le immagini, d'altronde lavoro con le immagini, e ultimamente ne ho scoperto uno nuovo, il codex seraphinianus. non l'ho ancora sfogliato, non ho ancora immaginato partendo da quelle pagine perché non l'ho mai visto, ma tutti ne parlano bene.

in sinagoga a fare le riprese per il video della comunità ebraica di trieste e come ogni luogo di culto fa sempre un effetto particolare. luce soffusa, non ho voluto far accendere i lampadari per non rovinare il sole che entrava dali enormi rosoni e appiattire tutto con l'invenzione di edison.

the idea is simple, the process was a little more difficult. the huge amount of processing libraries to interact with data available on internet let me create the installation in an easy way. the most tricky issue was to extract the data from a twitter stream.

parto dal significato tesso delle parole positivo e negativo. partiamo con il primo il positivo che, senza scomodare la filsofia, ci fa venire immediatemante in mente qualcosa di buono, di bello, i voti positivi a scuola, il pensiero positivo e lo stesso vale per il negativo con le cose brutte. ma quando mi è arrivato il bando di più o meno positivi si parlava di HIV e le due posizioni si sono invertite. il tutto parte dal bando per la giornata mondiale contro l'aids e il titolo più o meno positivi ha scatenato un loop. di base l'installazione che ho pensato è molto semplice, due simboli il + ed il - la cui dimensione dipende dai tweet che contengono la parola positivo e/o la parola negativo. ma in questo contesto il positivo richiama una cosa negativa e questa dicotomia è l'elemento che ha scatenato il loop.

the problem is always the same. what is art? A couple of days ago I went to the opening of the Biennale Diffusa in Trieste and  don't know if I was more fascinated by the event itself or by the place where the event took place. One thing is true, between doing or not doing something is better the first.

Sometimes the news come on a running machines. The new project is based on Amoz Oz work. Plenty of images from the text, I have to reduce them to reality.

The first animation is a woman drawing. The image will be created by the movement of the actor on the stage. Simple particle system. It's always a timing problem

The system works well if all of them waits the slowest. In a humid Ravenna fluido.it set up the 6 monitor installation for the fidelio tourneé.

It's only a 6 monitor installation, nothing more, nothing less. Let the software run.

Great opportunity to work on such famous artist. I have to animate some paintings for a theater performance. More info coming soon.

after the dual projection system for the operetta vedova allegra "merry widow" the Verona version is made by only one projection.

three languages. how connect them? the concept is based on the perceiving of a foreign language, when we see or hear it we watch and search common forms and listen to the common sounds to our known languages. the issue on how to show this on video was solved using the typography animation. first the base text in three languages was splitted in clusters and positioned on a 4000x4000 px image with different orientations then animated in after effects to recreate the whole phrase jumping from one cluster to the next one and from one language to another.

sometimes the interaction concept creates a plenty of disinformation. interaction is percieved as something the user can do and also the camera moving during a show is somehow interaction? I think interaction in performing arts is more than that, is interface, is connection, is response, is communication between human and the machine. When I was at the University my studies after the second year took a clear direction, computer mediated communication. Thid "mediation" starts with a phone call and put the flowing border on the next AI issue so everything has to pass through the machine, has to be analyzed, translated, computed, interprtated, modified and finally exported as a final result back to the human senses. I don't think a simple digitalization is interaction, interaction is digitalization and interpretation of the content. Long live to interaction!
